Free Weekly Training Sessions with ZEN blue

ZEN blue is the digital imaging suite for your research applications. Starting in May 2022, we are offering 5 weekly training sessions on ZEN blue that will help you to improve your handling with the ZEISS imaging software. 

The trainings focus on practical hands-on learning and are designed to give you the tools you need to directly start your imaging. Our software experts will guide you through the different parameters step by step and help you to optimize your imaging. The trainings are held in English.

You will be able to ask questions to our software experts and any questions that cannot be answered directly in the session will be addressed afterwards.

The series is recommended especially for applications in Life Sciences and partly in Education & Routine. Depending on your level of knowledge and your focus, you can choose the ideal session for you. You can join only single sessions or all sessions, there are no prerequisites needed. 

Learn together with us how to get optimal imaging results and apply the knowledge right away in your everyday work!

Please register for every session individually. A general registration for all sessions is not possible. Every session will be recorded.

Your Trainer: Gert Sonntag

Gert has been a sales and application specialist at ZEISS since 2001. As an expert in 3D imaging, Gert supports Key account customers in Germany and South Eastern Europe. In recent years, he established numerous workshops in our demo centers and also in the customer environment.

Key Learnings

  • Use your knowledge of your sample dyes to quickly configure your settings with Smart Set-Up
  • Understand the importance of the different acquisition parameters 
  • Learn how to optimize your confocal acquisition according to Nyquist criteria
  • Capture images from your sample using both fluorescence and transmitted light

Your Trainer: Frank Vogler

Frank Vogler joined ZEISS in 2018 as an Application Specialist for automated and confocal imaging at the ZEISS Customer Center imaging facility in Oberkochen, Germany. In his PhD and PostDoc at the University of Regensburg he studied cell polarity establishment and polarized tip growth using molecular biology, biochemistry and quantitative live cell imaging techniques.

Key Learnings

  • Understand the basic principles of camera-based imaging
  • Generate reproducible data using color-cameras
  • Learn to optimize hardware settings for multichannel fluorescence acquisitions

Your Trainers: Marion Lang & Phillip Holroyd

Dr. Marion Lang obtained her PhD in physics from the University of Heidelberg in 2007 for her work on high-resolution microscopy which she conducted at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). After university, she started as application specialist at Olympus for high-content screening and obtained further in-depth knowledge in image processing and analysis. Before joining ZEISS in 2017, she lived in China for three years, where she worked as a Senior Researcher at the Laser Institute of the Beijing University of Technology with focus on applications of lasers in Biophotonics. Four years ago, Marion Lang joined ZEISS as product manager, with main responsibility for image processing, image analysis and open application development (OAD).

Phillip’s love affair with microscopy started 18 years ago when beginning his doctoral thesis. He set out to investigate the biochemistry of exocytosis in neuroendocrine cells in a novel in vitro imaging assay. After a period collaborating with Stefan Hell’s group and several publications, Phillip decided to leave research for a sales job with TILL Photonics. TILL Photonics expanded its product range to include TIRF, FRET, FRAP and spinning disk solutions over the following years allowing Phillip to develop an appreciation of opto-mechanics and optics as well as insight into the application of these instruments in life science research.  In 2011 Phillip joined Carl Zeiss Microscopy as a Product Manager at our Munich location. Currently, he is responsible for the ZEN Blue software platform, with a special focus on the acquisition functions and modules.

  • Define automated image analysis pipelines using BioApps and the Image Analysis Wizard

Your Trainer: Sebastian Rhode

Sebastian Rhode studied Chemistry in Munich (Germany) and did his PhD in Linz at the Institute for Biophysics (Austria).During that time he built setups for single-molecule microscopy to study living cells. He worked for various microscopy companies to develop hardware and software solutions and joined ZEISS in 2012. Currently he is responsible for the integration of Machine Learning solutions into the ZEISS microscopy platform.

  • How to label your dataset efficiently using the APEER-ML platform
  • Train your model automatically
  • Use the trained model in ZEN for Image Analysis and BioApps
