To analyze life with as little disturbance as possible, you must use low labeling density for your biological models. This requires excellent imaging performance combined with low phototoxicity and high speed.
Experience a platform for confocal 4D imaging, which is optimized for simultaneous spectral detection of multiple weak labels with the highest light efficiency.
Discover the ZEISS laboratories for light microscopy! You will be able to see all different systems and receive an exclusive insight into the work of the application specialists.
Date: March 20, 15:15 - 16:15
Factory Tour, March 20
Use this unique opportunity to see how the ZEISS electron microscopes are produced. You will receive a personal tour through the assembly.

Timo Bernthaler is a materials engineer graduated from Aalen University and the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. His expertise is in the field of development and characterization of structural and functional materials. He is a member of the management board of the Materials Research Institute Aalen at Aalen University. In 2019 he became managing director of Matworks GmbH – Materials Engineering Solutions - a company within the Steinbeis Enterprise for industrial technology transfer.
Dr. Stefan Zaefferer
Physicist and Developer of the software TOCA
Dr. Zaefferer studied materials science and electron microscopy at the TU Clausthal, Germany, and obtained his PhD on a TEM investigation on textures and microstructures in titanium alloy. After post doc times abroad, he joined the Max-Planck-Institute for Iron Research and became leader of the group “microscopy and diffraction”. Since 2010 he is also lecturer at the RWTH Aachen. His most recent work is the third edition of “Introduction to Analysis” by Engler, Zaefferer and Randle.
Dr. Stephan Irsen
Group Leader, Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology of Behavior
After obtaining his PhD in Anorganic Chemistry at the RWTH Aachen, he started working as scientist in the research group "Rapid Prototyping" at the research center Caesar (now MPI for Neurology of Behavior caesar). He then changed to the research group "Electron Microscopy and Analytics", becoming group leader in 2007. In parallel he is pursuing his scientific career as lecturer for microscopy and biomaterials at the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.
