Days of Microscopy is an exclusive ZEISS event (invitation-only) with strictly limited places. You will see the newest light, electron, confocal, and super resolution microscopes in individual demos in small groups. Enjoy a private tour through the ZEISS Museum of Optics and learn more about the fascinating history of ZEISS. Get a glimpse behind the scenes during the lab/factory tours.
And last but not least you will meet the application specialists for the systems and have time for in depth discussions.

ZEISS fascinating history dates back to the year 1846, when Carl Zeiss invented the first microscope in his small workshop in the German town Jena.

Dr. Timo Bernthaler

Aalen University, Materials Research Institute

Timo Bernthaler is a materials engineer graduated from Aalen University and the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. His expertise is in the field of development and characterization of structural and functional materials. He is a member of the management board of the Materials Research Institute Aalen at Aalen University. In 2019 he became managing director of Matworks GmbH – Materials Engineering Solutions - a company within the Steinbeis Enterprise for industrial technology transfer.

Dr. Stefan Zaefferer

Physicist and Developer of the software TOCA

Dr. Zaefferer studied materials science and electron microscopy at the TU Clausthal, Germany, and obtained his PhD on a TEM investigation on textures and microstructures in titanium alloy. After post doc times abroad, he joined the Max-Planck-Institute for Iron Research and became leader of the group “microscopy and diffraction”. Since 2010 he is also lecturer at the RWTH Aachen. His most recent work is the third edition of “Introduction to Analysis” by Engler, Zaefferer and Randle.

Dr. Stephan Irsen

Group Leader, Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology of Behavior

After obtaining his PhD in Anorganic Chemistry at the RWTH Aachen, he started working as scientist in the research group "Rapid Prototyping" at the research center Caesar (now MPI for Neurology of Behavior caesar). He then changed to the research group "Electron Microscopy and Analytics", becoming group leader in 2007. In parallel he is pursuing his scientific career as lecturer for microscopy and biomaterials at the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.
